Sports massage is designed to enhance athletic performance and recovery. While it can be helpful to receive massage directly before and/or after an event, in this context we are addressing treatment between events. Sports massage can reduce recovery time, enabling an athlete to resume training much sooner than rest alone would allow. This style of massage will typically employ some deep tissue techniques while being mindful of the need not to impact performance dramatically during on-season (effort is made to avoid excessive muscle soreness or dramatic increase in flexibility that could affect ability to pitch, swing, jump hurdles, etc. accurately). Stretching and various muscle testing may also be employed where needed.
